A somersault, also known as a cartwheel, is an acrobatic maneuver in which a person flips their body upside down while rotating around a horizontal axis. Somersaults are often performed in gymnastics, cheerleading, martial arts, and other sports and physical activities.
Somersaults can be performed forward, backward, or sideways. The most common type of somersault is the forward somersault, which is performed by jumping up and tucking the legs towards the chest while simultaneously rotating the body forward. Backward somersaults are performed by jumping backward and arching the back while rotating the body backward. Sideways somersaults are performed by jumping to one side and rotating the body around a vertical axis.
